tHE LONGEST DAY

An annual 200+ mile endurance challenge organized by RUBBER N’ ROAD co-founder Gil Lavi, in support of The Trevor Project, a nonprofit dedicated to suicide prevention and mental health support for LGBTQ+ youth.

“Growing up, the hardest part wasn’t who I was. It was believing there was no future for it. The Longest Day isn’t about speed. It’s about making it through.”

Sport is often a space for growth, confidence, and belonging.
For many LGBTQ+ youth, access to that experience is not always equal.

The Longest Day is an annual ride dedicated to expanding access, awareness, and support, through endurance, community, and shared effort.

A LIVED REALITY

The numbers reflect a meaningful gap in access and support for LGBTQ+ youth in sport:

  • 32% of LGBTQ+ youth report participating in sports, lower than the general youth population

  • 68% have not participated, often citing concerns around acceptance or safety

  • Many report hearing negative or discouraging language in sports environments

  • Only 4% feel they could turn to a coach for support during mental distress

Beyond sport:

  • 68% report symptoms of anxiety

  • Nearly 40% have seriously considered suicide

THE ROLE OF SPORT

Sport has the potential to be one of the most powerful positive forces in a young person’s life.

Research consistently shows that participation is associated with:

  • Lower rates of depression

  • Higher self-esteem

  • Stronger sense of belonging

The opportunity is clear: to ensure more young people can access these benefits in environments that are supportive, respectful, and inclusive.

WHY 200+ MILES

200+ miles is intentional.

It requires time, discipline, and sustained effort. Because meaningful change also requires commitment.

Every mile represents resilience, consistency, and the choice to keep going.

This is not about symbolism alone. It is about showing up, together, with purpose.
